Songs, speakers and a video presentation will highlight a dedication for Laura Nobles Banks Elementary School, 3200 S. Leadflower, from 10 a.m. to Noon Feb. 1 in the school's multi-purpose room.

Laura Nobles Banks, the school's namesake, will be the featured speaker. Other speakers will include TUSD Superintendent Stan Paz; Beatrice Williams, a representative for the Texas Governor's office; TUSD Governing Board President Joel Ireland and Ray Davies, chairman of the Human Relations Council for the City of Tucson.

Banks students will sing songs and announce the school's colors and mascot. In addition, an official school portrait of Ms. Banks will be unveiled and a video tribute will be presented by the Pueblo High Magnet School's media class.
The school opened Nov. 26 with 350 students, 16 teachers and 20 staff members. Students had previously been located at Southwest Education Center and Lawrence Intermediate.

Laura Nobles Banks, an educator for almost forty years, served TUSD as a teacher, curriculum specialist, principal, and regional superintendent. She is recognized for her educational leadership locally and nationally. Although Dr. Banks is retired, she continues to do work on behalf of the public education system. She now resides in Texas.
