Celebrates Love of Reading Week

Schools throughout TUSD are planning a number of special events and activities in recognition of Love of Reading Week, which runs from
Feb. 9 through 13.
Love of Reading Week is a national celebration promoting an appreciation of literature among students and adults through author readings, special presentations and other literary activities including the following:
Blenman Elementary School, 1695 N. Country Club
2/12 (1:30 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.): Marc Severson, an oral storyteller, will perform in the
cafeteria.
2/13 (8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.): Bring someone you love to breakfast in the cafeteria. Students
will bring parents, grandparents, and siblings.
Dietz Elementary School, 7575 E. Palma
2/11 (8:15 a.m.): Author/illustrator Ashley Bryan will speak at school assembly in the
multi-purpose room.
Erickson Elementary School, 6750 E. Stella
2/19 (11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.): Students will
spend their lunch break in the library listening to adults
read books by Robert Munsch.
Fort Lowell Elementary School,
5151 East Pima
2/11 (8:30 a.m.): "Read In"--the whole school
will "drop everything and read."
2/13: Author Conrad Storad will spend time with
each class.
2/13 (12:15 p.m): Betsy Bruce, host of the Max
and Betsy Show on KIIM FM, and Allen Kath, the Traffic Guy,
will be reading to Mrs. Robbins' kindergarten class
Gale Elementary School, 678 S. Gollob Rd.
2/13 (8:15 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.): Gridley Middle School students will read to individual
kindergarten, first and second grade classes.
Henry Elementary School, 650 N. Igo Way
2/11 (8:15 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.): Gridley Middle School students will read to individual
kindergarten, first and second grade classes.
Magee Middle School, 8300 E. Speedway Blvd.
2/11 (10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.): Children’s book author Marianne Mitchell will read to
students from latest novel, Firebug, in the library.
Ochoa Elementary School, 101 W. 25th St.
2/11 (10 a.m. to 11 a.m.): Entire school will relax with a favorite book and snack on
popcorn.
Robins Elementary School, 3939 N. Magnetite
2/9 (8:15 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.): Storyteller Joe Hayes will read to students in the library.
Sabino High School, 5000 N. Bowes Rd.
2/5 (11:55 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.): Editorial cartoonist David Fitzsimmons will speak to
students in the library.
Schumaker Elementary School, 501 N. Maguire
2/9-2/13 (8:15 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.): Silent reading throughout the school.
Soleng Tom Elementary School, 10520 E. Camino Quince
2/17 (8:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.): Lisa Bear Goldman, author of the book
Amadito and Spider Woman, will speak to students in the library.
Steele Elementary School, 700 S. Sarnoff Dr.
2/12 (8:15 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.): Gridley Middle School students will read to individual
kindergarten, first and second grade classes.
Tolson Elementary School, 1000 S. Greasewood
2/10 (8:15 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.): Gridley Middle School students will read to individual
kindergarten, first and second grade classes.
2/12 (9 a.m. to 10 a.m.): Cholla High Magnet School student council will read to
individual classes.
Valencia Middle School, 4400 W. Irvington Rd.
2/12 (6 p.m. to 8 p.m.): Parents and students will enjoy activities focused on reading and
writing at Family Literacy Night in the cafeteria.
Vesey Elementary School, 5005 South Butts
2/9-2/13: Special daily activities in the library--making
bookmarks, rockin' and readin' and other reading related fun.
PTA has arranged special readers to come in during the week
to read to all classes. Teachers will have buddy readers and
read in the courtyard. A "Drop Everything and Read"
will happen daily. All students will receive a bookmark.
Wheeler Elementary School, 1818 Avenida del Sol
2/10 (5 p.m. to 8 p.m.): There will be a book fair in room 13. Students, parents, and
community members are expected to attend.
Wright Elementary School, 4311 E. Linden
2/10 (8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.): Author Joe Hayes will read to students in the library.
2/11 (9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.): Author Ashley Bryan will read to students in the
cafeteria.
