Students at Cholla High Magnet School, 2001 W. Starr Pass Blvd., will
participate in a weeklong series of lessons, seminars and presentations celebrating the
history of the blues from Feb. 11-15.
Highlights of the week will include a Display Day in the library throughout the day on
Thursday, Feb. 14, featuring student-made posters and a visual timeline depicting various
aspects of blues history. Renowned blues photographer David Horwitz will display some of
his images and talk to students about his 30-year career in the field. In addition,
musicians from the Tucson Blues Society will be on hand to work with students as they
experiment with creating lyrics and blues "riffs."
On Friday, Feb. 15, a culminating concert featuring Tucson-based blues musicians Stefan
George (guitarist and songwriter) and Arthur Migliazza (pianist) will be held in four
sessions from 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the schools Little Theater.
"History of the Blues" is made possible through a Library Power Grant from
the Educational Enrichment Foundation (EEF).
