The Titan Players at Palo Verde High Magnet School, 1302 S. Avenida Vega, in
cooperation with the Brewster Center, will present an original student-written play about
domestic violence at 7 p.m. Feb. 13, 14 and 15, in the schools Little
Theater.
Broken Home, written by Palo Verde senior and advanced drama student Hayley
Drey, tells the story of one womans survival of marital abuse. Tucsons
Brewster Center, which provides domestic violence intervention and prevention services
such as shelter, advocacy, counseling and education, will have counselors and an
information table available during performances.
Cast members participated in orientations and meetings with staff at the Brewster
Center before rehearsals began to familiarize themselves with the issue.
"Students learned that there is a political movement related to domestic violence
for example, women are called survivors, not victims,"
explains Elizabeth Lucarini, Palo Verde drama teacher and director. "This play is a
perfect example of social theater."
