Cholla High School to Celebrate the History of the Blues

Students at Cholla High Magnet School, 2001 W. Starr Pass Blvd., will participate in a weeklong series of lessons, seminars and presentations celebrating the history of the blues Feb. 12 through Feb. 14.
Highlights of the week will include a Display Day in the library throughout the day on Feb. 12 featuring student-made posters and a visual timeline depicting various aspects of blues history. Blues musicians Mitzi Cowell and Carla Brownlee will offer instructional blues music sessions from 8:30 a.m. through 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 13. In addition, singer Lisa Otey and guitarist Stefan George will perform in the school's Little Theater from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 13. Cholla's jazz band will also perform.
On Friday, Feb. 14, a culminating all-school concert featuring the Bad News Blues Band will be held in the school's stadium at 1:30 p.m.
History of the Blues" is made possible through a Library Power Grant from the Educational Enrichment Foundation, also known as EEF.
