Jefferson Park Elementary, 1701 E. Seneca, along with the Jefferson Park Neighborhood Association, received a grant worth $1,443 from PRO Neighborhoods to produce a video history of the Jefferson Park neighborhood.
The grant was co-written by Karen Galindo, a representative with the neighborhood association, and Saul Ostroff, counselor at the school. Students are currently videotaping long time resident families relating oral histories of the Jefferson Park neighborhood. The completed video project will then be shown at a gala celebration set for April.
PRO Neighborhoods is a technical assistance and small grants program, offering funds and resources to communities seeking to solve problems, build internal assets, and enrich social conditions. PRO Neighborhoods is a unique collaboration of local public and private organizations working together to help neighborhoods, barrios, tribal villages and rural communities build community power through finding their own solutions and successfully tackling issues in their own communities. Funds for PRO Neighborhoods come from the partnership of the City of Tucson, Pima County, the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona and the United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona.
