Ronald McDonald will kick off Love of Reading Week at Hollinger Elementary School, 150 W. Ajo Way, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Feb. 10 in the school's cafeteria.
Ronald will distribute certificates to students who read the most books in the school's read-a-thon held in the fall and in January. One class per grade level will be acknowledged for outstanding reading efforts. About 170 students in all will be recognized.
After the certificate presentation, Ronald will also discuss the distribution of books to students that will take place the week of Feb. 17 through Reading Is Fundamental's National Book Program.
Founded in 1966, Reading Is Fundamental, also known as RIF, develops and delivers children's and family literacy programs that help prepare young children for reading and motivate school-age children to read regularly.
RIF's National Book Program (NBP) motivates children and community members to read together through a triad of principles basic to the entire RIF organization: book ownership, motivational activities, and family involvement in children's reading. In 2001, through a national grassroots network of more than 400,000 volunteers, the NBP provided more than 5 million children with more than 15 million new, free books and other essential literacy resources.
