Students at Catalina High School, 3645 E. Pima St., will have the opportunity to
view a new video sponsored by the YWCA of Tucson from 12:30-2:30 tomorrow, Feb. 12,
in the school library.
YWCAs Jackie Nichols will show "Journey to a Hate-Free
Millennium," a 35-minute program about three recent examples of hate-driven violence:
the murder of Matthew Shepard, a gay college student, in Laramie, Wyoming; the murder of
James Byrd, a 49-year-old African American man who was dragged to his death while chained
to the back of a pickup truck in Jasper, Texas; and the shooting spree at Columbine High
School in Littleton, Colorado. After the showing, there will be time for reflection and
discussion.
The event coincides with the schools celebration of Love of Reading Week. At
Catalina, this years theme is "Pages for Peace."
