The Arizona Association for the Gifted and Talented (AAGT) recently selected Jeff
Hipskind, director of TUSDs GATE program, as the 2001 Gifted Education
Administrator of the Year.
The association presented Hipskind with the award on Feb. 7 at the 28th
annual Arizona Association for the Gifted and Talented state conference in Phoenix.
Hipskind was selected out of dozens of nominees from throughout the state. He received
his award based on his exceptional contributions to the area of gifted education,
including his work on a gifted education committee for Arizona Department of Education and
the increased participation of minority students in TUSDs gifted programs.
AAGT was formed in 1974 by a group of parents and teachers to meet the needs of the
states gifted students. The association provides information and guidance for
parents, teachers, administrators and legislators to develop and support gifted education,
in Arizona. Throughout the year, AAGT holds an annual conference for parents and
educators, publishes a quarterly newsletter, and offers scholarships for gifted students.
