Students at Reynolds Elementary School, 7450 E. Stella Rd., will be recognized for their successful efforts to increase recycling at a recognition ceremony at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 17 at the school.

The school's Student Council will be honored with a field trip to the City of Tucson's Waste Management's Material Recycling Facility. Carol Eader, the school's office manager and recycling coordinator, will be presented with a "Thanks-A-Watt" award. Councilwoman Shirley Scott, Dave Stadle from the Pima County Juvenile Court Community Services Program, and officials from the city's Waste Management Department will also participate.

Through the Commingled Recycling for Schools Project, Reynolds students and staff now recycle half of the waste produced at the school. The project encourages TUSD elementary schools to participate in the City of Tucson's "Tucson Recycles", a new recycling program that expands the current list of materials that can be commingled in a single container.

Reynolds is one of 15 schools participating in the project funded by a $19,000 grant from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality. Total project cost is $49,383 with a $30,383 match from local partners including the City of Tucson Solid Waste Management Department, University of Arizona Garbage Project, Recycle America and Waste Management of Tucson and Environmental Education Exchange.
