Duffy Elementary Celebrates 50 Years of

Duffy Elementary School, 5145 E. 5th St., will celebrate its 50th anniversary with an open house from
6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 18 in the school’s cafeteria and
patio.
The celebration is a free event to remember 50 outstanding years of education at Duffy. Activities will include a performance by the Arizona Jazz Academy as well as displays of historical photos from Duffy’s past 50 years. Attendees will be invited to document their memories in a 50th anniversary scrapbook.
All past and present students, teachers, principals and faculty are invited to attend. Over 200 guests are expected.
Duffy Elementary School was opened in 1955 was named for five sisters who taught in the District: Mary Duffy Collins, Harriet Duffy Murphy, Ida Myrtle Duffy, Catherine Duffy Foy and Alice Duffy Murphy. Duffy is the only school to be named for employees who worked for the District at the time of construction.
