Free Public Forum to Focus on Vital Public

The public is invited to attend “Pressing Realities in Public Education,” a free public forum to be held from
8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 19 at Tucson High Magnet School, 400 N. 2nd
St.
Speakers will include TUSD Superintendent Roger Pfeuffer, Tucson Mayor Robert Walkup, and vice president of the Tucson Education Association Rosalva Meza. Keynoting the event will be Rep. Raul Grijalva. Panel sessions will include:

“Perceptions and Misperceptions of Public Education” by Paul Karlowicz, president, Tucson Education Association

“The Elephant in Our Schools – A Parent’s Perspective” by Nancy Stanley, attorney, assistant director of Development & Public Relations for James E. Rogers College of Law

“TUSD Update - Achievements, Opportunities, and the Present Crisis” by Mary Belle McCorkle, teacher and former TUSD principal, assistant superintendent, and TUSD Governing Board member

“Responding to the Needs of Every Child…The Pyramid of Intervention” by Patti Lopez, deputy superintendent for TUSD
The forum is co-sponsored by the Metropolitan Education Commission, the Tucson Education Association, TUSD, TUSD School Community Partnership Council, the University of Arizona College of Humanities, and individual citizens.
