Tucson High Magnet School, 400 N. Second Ave., will host a visit from NASA’s touring Benefits of Space exhibit for students enrolled in the school’s science and technology program from 8:15 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 27-28. In addition, the exhibit will be open to the public free of charge from 3-5 p.m. Feb. 27.

Housed in a renovated semitrailer operated by NASA’s Johnson Space Center, the Benefits of Space exhibit focuses on technological advances derived from the space program—ranging from everyday items such as home smoke detectors and cordless phones to advanced medical technologies such as an implantable heart-assist device.

The first section of the trailer, the Technology Hall of Fame, features audio and video exhibits on a dozen space program spin offs. After viewing the exhibits, visitors walk into the Surround-Sound Theater, where a 10-minute video on the past, present and future of the space program is shown.

For more information about the Benefits of Space touring exhibit, see the NASA website: http://technology.jsc.nasa.gov/bost.cfm.

Tucson High Magnet School was selected for this visit because of its specialized program in science and technology offered to students in grades 9-12.
