UPDATE: Magee Middle School

NEWS RELEASE

Contact: Karen Gallagher, 225-6437
Posted on: March 17, 2006

Animal Experts and TUSD personnel found and removed 40 additional bats at Magee Middle School, 8300 E. Speedway Blvd. this morning. Animal Experts believe that these bats have been trapped in the building overnight and, therefore, have been easy to catch due to a weakened condition.

The students have been evacuated by bus this morning to Sahuaro High School. TUSD School Safety and Tucson Police are assisting with the evacuation.

The Pima County Health Department has been notified. Animal Experts and TUSD personnel will remain at the site to continue to monitor the interior of the building to ensure that all the bats have been removed.

We are asking for your assistance in alerting parents that the students are well supervised by Magee staff, that lunch will be provided and that they will be taken back to the Magee school site to allow for a normal dismissal routine. A letter will be sent home with all students to summarize the events of the day.
