Renowned Safety Expert to Train TUSD

Over 170 TUSD administrators will receive advanced-level safety and emergency preparedness training from nationally known school safety expert Michael Dorn during five three-hour presentations to be held from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on March 21 and
8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on March 22 at the Four Points Sheraton, 1900 E. Speedway
Blvd.
During the training, principals will learn various violence prevention techniques, how to distinguish the warning signs of destructive youth behavior, and assess multidisciplinary threats. In addition, every administrator will be taught how to create an emergency management plan for their school.
The training is part of a U.S. Department of Education program that provides funds to help local education agencies prepare, respond and recover from crises. TUSD received a $325,017 Emergency Response and Crisis Management grant in 2003.
Michael Dorn, currently serving as Senior Consultant for Public Safety and Emergency Management for Jane’s Consultancy, has provided consultation and technical assistance to more than 2,000 school systems, police departments, government agencies, and private organizations worldwide. His presentations have been featured in 11 training videos that are in use in more than 20 countries, and he has been featured on such programs as
Larry King Live, Good Morning America and ABC’s World News
Tonight. Organizations that have utilized his training videos include: the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the US Secret Service, the US Federal Emergency Management Agency, the US Transportation Security Administration, the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, and the Israel Police.
Jane’s Consultancy, the consulting arm of Jane’s Information Group, provides security risk and red teaming services, market intelligence, systems analysis, military organization assessments and expert testimony in the areas of security, defense, aerospace and transport.
