NEWS RELEASE

Posted on: March 29, 2006

This morning approximately 250-300 students walked out of their classes in an effort to express their opinions regarding the much publicized border/immigration issues. Some of the students did leave the Cholla and Pueblo campuses. Their demonstration was peaceful.

The student walks were monitored closely by TUSD School Safety and the Tucson Police Department. Most TUSD students remained on campus in their classes.

TUSD administrators held a debriefing and spoke about this situation and made plans for the future. This will include offering the students opportunities to express their concerns within the school environment that will be done through scheduled student forums, classroom discussions and letter/petition writing.
