TUSD officials will formally announce district plans to continue classes for Monday, April 10 during a news conference slated for 2 p.m. Friday, April 7, in the TUSD Governing Board Room, 1010 E. 10th. St.

Superintendent Roger Pfeuffer, TUSD Governing Board President Adelita Grijalva and Governing Board Clerk Alex Rodriquez will speak on the importance of having students attend school on that day, which is being referred to as a National Day of Action on Immigrant Rights and is expected to draw thousands of demonstrators to rallies in cities across the country including Tucson.

TUSD remains committed to providing consistent educational opportunities to its students and continues to urge parents to speak to their children about attending school. TUSD will NOT provide return transportation for students who choose to leave campuses. The Tucson Police Department has also indicated that officers will not be available to support students who choose to leave schools. In addition, schools will provide letters to parents asking them to speak to their children about remaining in school and that if they leave school they are the responsibility of the parents. As a precautionary measure, because of its location adjacent to Armory Park, Safford students will be temporarily relocated to Carrillo Intermediate School and Rincon High School on Monday.

Superintendent Pfeuffer, President Grijalva and Clerk Rodriquez, along with union member representatives, will also stress the importance of having employees fulfill their job functions on that day to ensure the academic success of all students.

Throughout the week of April 3, schools have held a variety of activities providing opportunities for students to express their views on immigration and the current immigration bills that will be voted on by Congress in the coming weeks. These activities will continue. For a listing of activities and parent letters, please visit: http://www.tusd.k12.az.us/
