A crew of about 100 students, family members and other volunteers from Doolen Middle School, 2400 N. Country Club, will paint the school’s portables on the Grant Road-side of campus from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on two consecutive Saturdays, April 13 and 20.

The students in David Jackson’s service learning class are improving their school while learning the value of community service. In addition, Jackson incorporated math lessons into the project by requiring students to take measurements of the buildings in order to calculate the number of gallons of paint needed to complete the project.

The 25 needed gallons were supplied through the Tucson Volunteer Center.
