Forty-seven students with near-perfect attendance from Lawrence Intermediate School, 4850 W. Jeffrey Rd., will raise money for a trip to Disneyland in May by selling Mexican-style hot dogs from
10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 23 and April 30 in front of the Wal-Mart Super Center at 1650 W. Valencia Rd.
Mexican-style hot dogs will be sold for $2.50, nachos for $1.50 and sodas for 50 cents. The fundraiser is being sponsored by Wal-Mart. The store will match the dollar amount the students raise, up to $1,000. Rainbow Bread will donate hot dog buns and students’ families will donate condiments.
The Lawrence attendance committee challenged students in the fifth-grade class to miss no more than five days during the current school year. The 47 students that met the challenge were then required to write a five-paragraph essay explaining why they deserve to go to Disneyland.
The Pascua Yaqui Tribe has pledged to sponsor the trip for the 21 participating Yaqui students.
