Rogers Elementary School to Welcome Local Native Author

Local author and illustrator Gerald Dawavendewa will visit Rogers Elementary School, 6000 E. 15th St., from 11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday, April 29. Presentations will be made to students from 11:30-2:30 p.m. and to families from 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Dawavendewa, Hopi-Cherokee, works as a graphic designer with the Lunar Laboratory at the University of Arizona. He will talk with students and their families about the artistic and writing processes used in the creation of his book, The Butterfly Dance, which chronicles one important day as seen through the eyes of a young Hopi girl named Sihumana.

This presentation is made possible through a mini-grant from the New York-based Ezra Jack Keats Foundation.
