Live music by local artists and gourmet coffee will highlight
the Folk and Joe Music Festival, a free family
event sponsored by ArtWORKS Academy from 2:30 to 6:00
p.m., May 9 at the El Con Mall, 3601 E. Broadway Blvd.
Live music performances by local bands and singers will include:
Noah Gabbard and Bombs for the Board; Brandon Kosters and
Arthur Vint; Tammy West and Rebecca Horton; Namoli Brennet;
and Orion. Gourmet coffee, cookies, brownies, and other baked
goods will be sold, as well as handmade ceramic mugs. Student
artwork will also be on display and for sale.
As a TUSD Alternative Education High School, ArtWORKS Academy
invites a diverse group of at-risk students with an interest
in art. Students complete their high school education while
learning the fine art of hand-made tile and mixed media artwork.
Their art is then sold in the ArtWORKS! Gallery at the front
of the school, inside the El Con Mall near Robinsons May.
Students receive half of all profits earned from the sale
of their artwork; the remaining profits go back into supporting
the program. This high school is a collaborative effort between
TUSD, the Tucson Pima Arts Council, the City of Tucson, and
the El Con Mall.
