The Teacher of the Year award is broken down into three categories: elementary, middle, and high school. Applicants are required to have a minimum of five years experience teaching physical education, have a degree in and be certified as a physical education teacher, and be currently teaching K-12 physical education. The organization’s goal is to strengthen basic knowledge about sport and physical education in order to improve academic performance, social reform and the health of individuals throughout schools and communities across the country.
