TUSD's Pan Asian American Studies Department will honor outstanding students at the Second Annual Pan Asian American Student Recognition Program, to be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, at Dragon’s View Restaurant, 400 N. Bonita Ave.

Asian American students from each of TUSD’s 10 high schools will be recognized in four categories: academics, athletics, fine arts and community service. Special guests will include district administrators and Governing Board members, representatives from city government, and others from the Pan Asian community. In addition, there will be a formal presentation of colors by the Catalina High Magnet School AFJROTC Color Guard.

TUSD’s Pan Asian American Studies Department was established by the TUSD Governing Board in 1998 after two years of consultation with the Pan Asian Community Alliance of Tucson, an umbrella organization representing all of the Asian/Pacific Islander communities in Tucson. The Pan Asian American Studies Department recognizes the great cultural and linguistic diversity that exists within TUSD’s Asian/Pacific Islander population, including its most recent Asian refugee and immigrant families, and serves as a liaison between the district and the local Pan Asian community.
