Parents, teachers and community members will participate in a tamale making class to celebrate Mother’s Day at
10 a.m. May 6 at the Myers-Ganoung Family Resource and Wellness Center, 5000 E. Andrew.
Fifteen participants are expected to learn how to make the Mexican dish, which is based on a turkey and vegetable recipe provided by center volunteer Norma Figueroa.
The Family Resource and Wellness Centers are a collaborative effort involving four metropolitan school districts (Amphitheater School District, Flowing Wells School District, Sunnyside Unified School District and Tucson Unified School District), the City of Tucson, Pima County, the Arizona State Department of Economic Security, and various other parental, governmental, educational and community agencies. These diverse groups are currently engaged in a joint, long-term effort to effect institutional change, guarantee ongoing cooperation, and develop an effective, school-linked service delivery system for children and their families.
The primary mission of the Family Resource and Wellness Centers is to improve educational achievement by facilitating the delivery of community-assessed educational, health, social, recreational and mental health services to children, youth and families in the Tucson metropolitan area, thereby removing the barriers to success.
