Reading Association To Recognize Lyons Teacher With Literacy Award

The Arizona Reading Association will honor Margaret Durako, first-grade teacher at
Lyons Elementary School, 7555 E. Dogwood, with its 2005 Celebrate Literacy award at the association’s conference on
Sept. 24 at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix.
The award recognizes organizations, institutions, and individuals that have made significant literacy contributions at the local, state or provincial level. Award recipients are selected based on their exemplary accomplishments in several areas including:

direct teaching at any level
-
organizing local literacy programs
-
producing teaching materials or special media
-
Providing young people the opportunity to help in literacy activities.
The Arizona Reading Association is the local affiliate of the International Reading Association, which promotes literacy worldwide by improving the quality of reading instruction through the study of the reading process and teaching techniques. The International Reading Association was founded in 1956 as a professional organization for those involved in teaching reading to learners of all ages.
