Steele Elementary’s “Zone of Steele” program will open its doors to the public from
2:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, in the school’s cafeteria,
700 S. Sarnoff Dr., to support the Lights on Afterschool!
campaign.
Children in grades kindergarten through 6th are invited to attend this enriching celebration that features music, dancing, arts and crafts, and thought-provoking games. Ellen Weintraub, a teacher at Steele who recently released her first children’s music CD, will teach children songs along with corresponding dance moves. The Tucson High Magnet School cheerleading squad will be on site to coach children on cheers and routines. Moreover, Wells Fargo has volunteered someone to work with students on math skills. In addition, students will have the option to learn the basics of chess along with participating in various other ongoing activities.
The Zone of Steele program offers children attending Steele Elementary an exciting and safe educational adventure both before and after school, and during the summer break. Its goal is to provide families with affordable childcare while making students’ time away from their families stimulating.
Lights on Afterschool! is a national campaign for the awareness of after school programs and their need for support to facilitate keeping their doors open and their lights on. After school programs around the nation will join in the Oct. 9th celebration.
