An open house highlighting Palo Verde High Magnet School, 1302 S. Avenida Vega, and its various offerings will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 14, in the cafeteria.

The open house will begin with an informative discussion on the magnet program and the specific courses Palo Verde offers, followed by a question and answer period. Departmental booths will be displayed for prospective students and their parents to meet faculty one on one. Following this, attendees will tour the school. Stops include a drafting room, science lab, machine shop, and the Tierra Mojada Environmental Research Center, a wetland habitat and outdoor laboratory where native Arizona fish dwell and students can perform ecological experiments.

All 8th grade and other students living within TUSD who are interested in attending Palo Verde next year are welcome to attend.

Palo Verde is one of six magnet high schools in TUSD. Each magnet school has a special focus with Palo Verde concentrating on engineering and technology. Students are introduced to and trained for careers in fields such as graphic arts, manufacturing technology, auto mechanics, and desktop publishing.

Approximately 100 new magnet students will be accepted into Palo Verde for the 2004-2005 school year. Students are selected through a lottery process held each year.
