Students at Cragin Elementary School, 2945 N. Tucson Blvd., will launch the school’s 2001-2002 PeaceBuilders program with a Peace Walk beginning at 8 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, on the school’s basketball court.

Principal Pearl Horsch and Student Council President Abel Herrera will offer a welcome greeting, followed by remarks from guest speaker Mary Belle McCorkle, TUSD Governing Board member. Then the entire school community will begin a Peace Walk around the surrounding neighborhood, carrying banners made by each class.

After the march, students will gather on the recreation field forming two large circles and recite the Peace Pledge. The banners will remain on display in the school.

PeaceBuilders is a community-based violence prevention program conducted in schools across the country. It is designed to help create an environment that reduces violence and establishes more peaceful ways of behaving, living and working in families, schools, organizations and communities.
