Students at Grijalva Elementary School, 1795 W. Drexel Rd., will participate in International Walk to School Day tomorrow, Oct. 2. Tucson firefighters will be at the school to greet students with safety stickers from 7:30-8 a.m.

International Walk to School Day is designed to promote health, safety, physical activity and concern for the environment. Locally supported by Tucson SAFE KIDS, the Tucson Fire Department, Northwest Fire District, FedEx and 3M in conjunction with the National SAFE KIDS Campaign, the goal is to assess the conditions children face while walking to school and then make recommendations and suggest follow-up activities to improve the safety of Tucson’s children.

Participating parents are asked to walk their children to school and then complete a "walkability check sheet" designed to help the Tucson Fire Department understand the safety conditions that exist in Tucson neighborhoods.
