Wright Elementary, 4311 E. Linden, was the only school in the state chosen to receive five LeapTrack systems from LeapFrog SchoolHouse as part of a national literacy campaign.
During the selection process LeapFrog representatives performed a site visit at Wright to meet both students and teachers. Representatives were impressed with Wright’s diversity and various academic programs, and therefore chose Wright to receive the donation.
The LeapTrack systems provide assessment in math, reading, language arts, vocabulary and early literacy. These systems will provide teachers with the ability to quickly and continuously assess student performance, thus allowing them to personalize student instruction.
The systems, worth $20,000, will be used on the second grade level. Each class will receive one LeapTrack system along with 12 LeapPads, 150 assessment books and 756 multisensory instructional skill cards. The LeapPads, which are interactive computerized books, are designed to teach through touch, sight, and sound. They can be used both in the classroom to educate and at home for further tutoring.
The donation is part of a national partnership between LeapFrog SchoolHouse and the Wal-Mart Literacy Campaign to promote early learning and literacy among at-risk students in 50 districts across the nation.
