Students at Magee Middle School, 8300 E. Speedway Blvd., will present a check in
the amount of $18,410.73 to the American Red Cross for relief efforts during the
schools annual patriotic concert, to be held from 7-8 p.m. tomorrow, Oct. 4,
in the school cafeteria.
Since the schools Sept. 14 fund-raising kick-off event, students raised the
substantial sum in a variety of ways, including car washes, sales of patriotic pins and an
auction of Krispy Kreme Donuts. Students and their parents also made personal
contributions to the fund.
Richard White will accept the donation on behalf of the American Red Cross. Also
present will be Vice Mayor Fred Ronstadt, Tucson Fire Department Chief Dan Newburn and
TUSD Superintendent Stan Paz and Regional Assistant Superintendent Larry Williams.
The concert will feature music by Magees band and orchestra students, who will
perform the national anthem as well as classic patriotic arrangements such as
"America the Beautiful" and "Battle Hymn of the Republic."
