Andrew Lettes, a science teacher at Pueblo High Magnet School, 3500 S. 12th
Ave., was selected as a finalist for the 2003 Intel Math and Science "Innovator
of the Year" Award.
He is among six finalists selected from across the state for the award. Sponsored by
Intel Corporation, the award recognizes teachers whose teaching methods in science and
math are exceptionally innovative and who can provide evidence that their method is
effective.
Two winners will be announced on Nov. 13 at a banquet at the Heard Museum, 2301 N.
Central Ave., in Phoenix. Each will receive a $10,000 cash award and a laptop computer.
The Intel® Innovation in Education initiative is focused on strengthening mathematics,
science, and engineering education in more than twenty nations on five continents. The
ongoing objectives of this global program include:
- Improving science and math in primary and secondary education
- Increasing the effective use of technology in classroom teaching
- Broadening access to technology
- Increasing the number of people, especially women and minorities, pursuing technical
careers
Intel strives to advance teaching and learning in the areas of science, math,
engineering, technology, and to improve education through the effective use of technology
in the classroom.
