Santa Rita Assistant Principal Honored as
Athletic Administrator of the Year

Joni Pabst, assistant principal at Santa
Rita High School, 3951 S. Pantano, has been honored as the
2003 4A Athletic Administrator of the Year,
by the Arizona Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association
(AIAAA).
Ms. Pabst was presented with the award at the
AIAAA’s annual conference held in Prescott, AZ, Sept.
7 through 9. This state-level recognition is given to an athletic
administrator based on their educational background, letters
of recommendation, service to both their state and local athletic
community, service to the AIAAA and the NIAAA, and both coaching
and administrative careers.
In addition, the National Interscholastic Athletic
Administrators Association (NIAAA) recognized Ms. Pabst with
a Distinguished Service Award, which recognizes athletic administrators
for their length of service, special accomplishments, and
contributions to interscholastic athletics at the local, state
and national levels. Nominations are submitted by state athletic
director associations, screened by the Awards Committee, and
selected by the Board of Directors. Ms. Pabst will be presented
with the award at the NIAAA’s annual conference in Indianapolis,
Dec. 13 through 17.
As well as her two awards, Ms. Pabst has been
named to the Arizona Interscholastic Association’s Executive
Board to represent the 4A Conference.
Joni Pabst has served TUSD since 1986. Her positions have
included coach at both Sabino High School and Cholla Magnet
High School and Physical Education Department Chairperson
at Cholla. She is currently Assistant Principal of Athletics
and Activities at Santa Rita.
