A collection of monoprints by local artists will be displayed during an exhibit titled “Monoprints by The Drawing Studio,”
Oct. 20 through Dec. 10 at the G.A.S.P. Gallery located at
Utterback Magnet Middle School, 3233 S. Pinal Vista. The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. weekdays, except Wednesday when the gallery closes at 2:45 p.m. An opening reception for the artists will be held from
6 to 7 p.m., Oct. 30 at the gallery.
Sixteen artists from The Drawing Studio have come together to present their artwork created through the monoprint process, a method that typically uses oil or water-based ink to create a series of prints in which each print contains the same underlying image, but has some difference in color, texture, or design applied to it. Surprises and changes inherent in this technique become the catalyst for adding other media.
This show continues eight years of collaboration between The Drawing Studio and Utterback. The Drawing Studio is an independent association of studio artists and students of art dedicated to the practice of drawing and related studies of composition, observation, and aesthetics. Courses are based on the philosophy that drawing is not simply a learned skill, but rather a continuing practice.
Utterback is a TUSD magnet school with a focus on the creative and performing arts. Fifteen students who assume the responsibilities of curator, registrar, security, docent, installer, and publicist run the G.A.S.P. Gallery, which stands for Great Art by Students and Professionals. Art instructor Linda Poverman leads the project.
