Students, parents, and faculty will join together to clean up the bird sanctuary for Make a Difference Day from
7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 25, at Borton Primary Magnet School, 700 E. 22nd
St.
Volunteers will be raking, picking up trash, and cutting brush in the outdoor learning center. Volunteers are asked to bring tools and work gloves to aid in the clean up. Mimi’s Café has donated muffins for those who participate and Borton parents will be providing bottled water.
Initially funded by a Heritage grant, the bird sanctuary is a science center where students learn about birds and their environments. Located south of the Borton playground, it is divided into regions including arid, succulent, riparian, and hummingbird, which are used to teach science, math and art.
Created in 1992 by USA Weekend Magazine, Make a Difference Day is a worldwide campaign that encourages people to volunteer their time and talents to both community projects and members. It is our nation’s largest day of community service, with over three million participants in 2002.
