Restored Stage Coach Stops at
Maxwell on Historic Journey

A restored stagecoach retracing its 1800s mail route from Missouri to California will
make a stop on its historic trip at 11 a.m. on Oct. 25 at Maxwell Middle School,
2802 W. Anklam Rd.
The Butterfield Stage Coach will visit the school along its way to Las Vegas as it
follows the old Butterfield stagecoach route to California. Seven students from Roger
Duelles social studies and language arts classes will have the opportunity to ride a
short distance on the stagecoach. Rick Hamby, an auctioneer from Missouri who is leading
the trip, and his crew will also talk to students about the stagecoachs journey and
the history behind the Butterfield trail.
Titled "The Journey," the historic trip will benefit the St Jude's Children's
Hospital in Memphis Tenn., Special Olympics Missouri and Children's Miracle Network.
Before stopping in Tucson, the Butterfield Stagecoach traveled 1,400 miles from
Springfield, Mo. to Wyatt Earp's Old Tombstone Trading Post. Peter Kline, the owner of the
