Governor Janet Napolitano will tour the kindergarten and Parent and Child Education, also known as PACE, classes at
Manzo Elementary, 855 N. Melrose Ave., from 11 to 11:45 a.m., Tuesday, Oct.
28, to promote her literacy and early childhood education campaign.
The governor chose to visit Manzo due to the school’s exceptional PACE and kindergarten programs, which are strongly supported by both Manzo parents and the school’s Outdoor Learning program. Additionally, Manzo received a Title 1 Distinguished School Award in 2001, an award bestowed to only 95 schools in the nation and only two schools in Arizona.
PACE, a preschool designed for four year olds, unifies home and school as an educational team. The program provides parent workshops, family-style meals, indoor and outdoor play activities, and dental, vision and hearing screening. The kindergarten program at Manzo is an extension of PACE. Parents are invited to join in field trips and everyday classroom activities. Class sizes are small and each has a teaching assistant for individualized instruction.
In addition to her visit, the governor’s office will distribute a free book to every TUSD first grader titled “This House Is Made of Mud,” by Ken Buchanan.
