TUSD Students Learn About the Election Process

Students across TUSD will learn about the electoral process through various activities scheduled from now until Nov. 10. Please see the below list for school-specific events:

Elementary Schools

Robins Elementary School, 3939 N. Magnetite Ln.
Nov. 2 (8 a.m. to 9 a.m.; 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.): Students in grades kindergarten through 5 who previously registered to vote will cast their ballots in mock polling booths.

White Elementary School, 2315 W. Canada St.
Nov. 2 (8:26 a.m. to 11:10 a.m.): Students in grades kindergarten through 5 will vote in mock polling booths. Second-grade students will man the booths and tally the votes.

Middle Schools

Carson Middle School, 7777 E. Stella Rd.
Nov. 2 (8 a.m. to 2:53 p.m.): Students in grades 6 through 8 will vote and submit their ballots in the library. Eighth-graders will tally votes.

Safford Middle Magnet School, 200 E. 13th St.
Nov. 2 (8:55 a.m. to 9:44 a.m., 11:34 a.m. to 1:16 p.m., and 1:54 p.m. to 2:43 p.m.): Eighth-grade students will participate in an Electoral College simulation.

Townsend Middle School, 2120 N. Beverly Blvd.
Oct. 29 (9:15 a.m. and 1:40 p.m.): Eighth-grade students will participate in the national KidsVoting USA/Arizona internet voting program.

High Schools

Howenstine High Magnet School, 555 S. Tucson Blvd.
Oct. 29 (11 a.m.): Seniors will participate in a mock presidential debate and election. Students will divide into three committees—Republican Party, Democratic Party and an Election Commission—to run the debate and administer ballots to the student body.

Santa Rita High School, 3951 S. Pantano Rd.
Oct. 30 (3 p.m. to 6 p.m.): Seniors will debate students from Desert View High School on KVOI 690 AM. Santa Rita students will represent the Democrat presidential candidates and Desert View the Republican candidates.
