Students of Howenstine High Magnet School, 555 S. Tucson Blvd., will dedicate a house they constructed for Habitat for Humanity at
4 p.m., Friday, Oct. 29 at the house site, 2677 W. Bilby Rd.
The students will celebrate the dedication with the new homeowners. “The partnership between Howenstine High Magnet School and Habitat Tucson is a direct application of our mission, where students achieve through service-learning,” said Colleen Sand, School to Work Coordinator of Howenstine High Magnet School. “Howenstine students build the house on campus; apply their academic skills to a real life project while addressing a need in the community and this dedication is a celebration for everyone involved in the build.”
The house is the fourth that students of the program have built for Habitat for Humanity. Sponsors of School Build include the Elizabeth Reed Taylor Foundation, Realty Executives Southern Arizona and Wells Fargo Home Mortgage.
Howenstine High Magnet School is a service learning magnet school that provides community service learning experience to its students through its building technology curriculum. One of the school’s goals is to develop the magnet focus of service learning by concentrating on partnerships with families and community organizations to improve student achievement.
