Carrillo Invites Community to
Celebrate La Fiesta del Jardin

The newly restored La Pilita building and its adjoining garden, across the street from Carrillo
Magnet Elementary School, 440 S. Main Ave., will be the site for a five-day
celebration Nov. 6- Nov. 10. La Fiesta del Jardin will offer activities for the
entire family, including art exhibits, arts and crafts workshops, storytelling and a yard
sale:
Tuesday, Nov. 6 4-6 p.m.: Art gallery opening and reception, featuring
botanical illustrations of Margaret Pope and 49 Carrillo students. Art and refreshments
will be for sale. Free and open to the public.
Wednesday, Nov. 7 3-5 p.m.: Stencil workshop: "Back to the Garden:
Aprons and Totes." Cost of workshop is $15, limited to 10. Registration is required.
Thursday, Nov. 8 6:30-7:30 p.m.: Local author and oral historian Patricia
Preciado Martin will share "The Tales of El Tiradito." Donation of $5 is
requested.
Friday, Nov. 9 7-10 p.m.: Art in the Grove, held at the adjacent Elysian
Grove Market Bed and Breakfast, 400 W. Simpson St., will feature music and a silent
auction of garden objects, jewelry and art. Donation of $20 requested at the door.
Saturday, Nov. 10 9 a.m.-2 p.m.: Yard sale on the grounds of La Pilita
and Carrillo Magnet Elementary School. Noon-2 p.m.: Stencil workshop:
"Terracotta Pots for the Patio." Cost of workshop is $10 per container, limited
to 12. Registration is required.
