The G.A.S.P. (Great Art by Students and Professionals) Gallery at Utterback Middle
School, 3233 S. Pinal Vista, is featuring the works of Drawing Studio students and
faculty through Dec. 14. The gallery is open during regular school hours. An opening
reception will be held from 6-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1.
"The Sonoran Desert" exhibit features watercolors depicting local landscapes,
"reflecting the pleasures and mysteries of the Southwestern desert."
The Drawing Studio is an independent association of studio artists and students of art
dedicated to the practice of drawing and related studies of composition, observation and
aesthetics. Courses are based on the philosophy that drawing is not simply a skill to be
learned, but a continuing practice.
Utterback is a TUSD magnet school with a focus on the creative and performing arts. The
G.A.S.P. Gallery is run by 14 students, who assume the responsibilities of curator,
registrar, security, docent, installer and publicist. Leading the project is art
instructor Linda Poverman.
