First-grade students at Bonillas Basic Curriculum Magnet School, 4757 E. Winsett,
will stage a flag-raising ceremony at 10 a.m. tomorrow, Oct. 31, outside on the
playground.
Students in Marjorie Murrows class made a 57" x 228" laminated paper
flag, which they will put up on the west fence of the schools playground. Dressed in
red, white and blue, they will begin with a march out to the field, and then recite the
Pledge of Allegiance followed by a moment of silence. They also will sing patriotic songs.
The month-long flag-creation activity inspired classroom civic lessons focusing on
effort, cooperation, respect and democracy, as well as math lessons required for achieving
the proper dimensions of the flag.
Bonillas Basic Curriculum Magnet School offers a curriculum designed to help all
students achieve the highest competency in basic skills. High value is placed on
scholarship, citizenship, responsibility, courtesy and respect.
