Gridley Middle School to Honor
America

Students at Gridley Middle School, 350 N. Harrison Rd., will honor America with
a weeklong series of special activities Nov. 5-9.
Daily: Veterans Day-related morning announcements will be read; patriotic
songs will be played at 2:50 p.m.; students and staff honor individual veterans, police
officers and firefighters by writing their names on paper stars, which will be posted
around the school; patriotic artwork will be displayed around the school; a school-wide
canned food drive will be held to benefit the Community Food Bank; and classroom
curriculum will focus on civics lessons and patriotism.
Wednesday, Nov. 7: Students will dress in red, white and blue and pose in the
shape of the American flag for an aerial photograph, which will be made into postcards and
sent to men and women serving in the armed forces.
Thursday, Nov. 8: A Veterans Day Reception with student-invited
veterans, police officers and firefighters will be held from 7:30-8:05 a.m. Grade-level
assemblies will be held from 8:15-11:15 a.m., featuring patriotic music by the Gridley
band and orchestra and readings of winning student essays. Special guests will include
Tucson Battalion Chief Randy Ogden, School Resource Officer Sgt. Bob Holliday, Lt.
Carrillo of the Tucson Police Department and Fire Department Inspector Nikki Springer
singing The Star Spangled Banner. After each assembly, students will gather to tie
ribbons around the schools perimeter fence.
