TUSD Accepting Name Nominations for New
Schools

Tucson Unified School District is inviting the public to submit names
for two new elementary schools set to open in the fall of 2002. Names must
be submitted by 4:45 p.m. Feb. 1, 2002 to the Superintendents
office, 1010 E. 10th St.
Students, parents, community members and staff are invited to submit
nominations. Forms can be accessed on the TUSD web site (Naming
of Schools Nomination Form, in MS Word or Naming
of Schools Nomination Form, in Adobe PDF) and can also be requested at
the Communications Department, 1010 E. 10th St; 225-6437.
As described in Board
Policy 3741, criteria for name nominations include:
- Continuous and exceptional contributions to the education of
District schools
- Meritorious, extraordinary and enduring service to the Districts
students, parents and staff
- Contributions to the field of education as a whole; and
- Contributions to the community
The schools, each with a capacity for 550 students, will be located at
W. 36th Street and S. La Cholla Boulevard and at S. San Joaquin
Avenue and W. Bopp Road. One school will be headed by principal Jeanette
Morales, the other by Velma Castaņeda-Titone.
