Governor Janet Napolitano will read “This House Is Made of Mud” to first graders from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 20, at Rose Elementary, 710 W. Michigan Dr.

“This House Is Made of Mud,” by Ken Buchanan, is a children’s book about an adobe house in the Sonoran Desert and everything that makes up its surrounding environment. The governor’s office will distribute a copy of the book to each of the 94 Rose first graders.

The governor’s visit is part of her literacy and early childhood education campaign. Rose Elementary is piloting Reading First in their kindergarten through third grade classrooms, an initiative that targets early readers through high-quality reading instruction. The grant is part of AZ Reads and the No Child Left Behind Act. In addition to Rose, the governor also visited Manzo on Oct. 28 as part of her campaign.
