Teachers and students will be moving to the newly constructed Banks Elementary School, 3200 S. Lead Flower, at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 26. The initial date for completion had been set for January 2003.

About 350 students, 16 teachers and 20 staff members will board buses from their temporary locations at Southwest Education Center, 6855 S. Mark Rd., and Lawrence Intermediate, 4850 W. Jeffrey Rd., and travel to the new school. Students will have opportunities to tour the school and have their first meal in the cafeteria. Teachers will set up their classrooms beginning Nov. 22. The official dedication of the school will be held Feb. 1.

Laura Banks Elementary is named after Dr. Laura Nobles Banks, an educator for almost forty years.  She served TUSD as a teacher, curriculum specialist, principal, and regional superintendent.  She is recognized for her educational leadership locally and nationally.  Although Dr. Banks is retired, she continues to do work on behalf of the public education system.
