Finalists Selected for High School Teacher of the Year Program

Nine teachers have been selected as finalists for the10th annual UA Arizona Athletics/Circle K Outstanding High School Faculty Awards Program. One finalist will be announced as the program’s Teacher of the Year at a banquet dinner on
March 3 at the Jim Click Hall of Champions on the UA campus and during the UA men’s basketball game on March 4.
Formerly known as 76/Circle K Outstanding High School Faculty Awards Program, the program honors selected high school teachers throughout Southern Arizona who exemplify the best the teaching profession has to offer. Finalists will receive a commemorative plaque and tickets to a UA men’s basketball game and will be featured in a special KOLD 13 newscast. The winning teacher of the year will receive an award for his or her school.
The following teachers were selected as finalists:
- Anne Bedford — ESL teacher, Catalina High Magnet School
- Kristin Bourguet — Integrated science/biology teacher, Marana High School
- Stephanie Duisberg – German and Spanish teacher, Amphitheater High School
- Krista Gypton — English, AP English and Service Leadership teacher, Cienega High School
- DeAnna McDonald — Mathematics teacher, Palo Verde High Magnet School
- George Parra — Social studies teacher, Cholla High Magnet School
- Patti Schmalzel – Family and consumer sciences, Canyon Del Oro High School
- Ken Tower — Woods and architecture teacher, Flowing Wells High School
- Margaret Wilch — Honors research methods, honors biology and AP environmental science teacher, Tucson High Magnet School
