Tucson Electric Power, the Pascua Yaqui Tribe, and Hohokam Middle School will celebrate the first TUSD solar installation fully funded through the Arizona Corporation Commission’s Environmental Portfolio Standard with a brief dedication ceremony at
10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 1 at Hohokam, 7400 S. Settler Road.
The new 3 kilowatt solar photovoltaic system was donated by Tucson Electric Power Company. The system’s design, equipment and installation is worth around $28,000. Through TEP’s SunShare Program, six TUSD schools will be selected for similar solar photovoltaic system installations over the next year. Participating schools will also receive targeted energy-efficiency retrofits and teachers will integrate energy education into the curriculum to improve student performance.
Judy Burns, TUSD Governing Board Clerk; Steve Lynn, TEP Vice President of Communications and Government Relations; and a representative of the Pascua Yaqui Tribal Council will activate the new system and comment on this successful public/private partnership. The event will also include a singing performance by students.
