Students of ArtWORKS! Academy High School, 3601 E. Broadway Blvd., will exhibit their holiday artwork at an opening reception at
6 p.m., Dec. 10 at the ArtWORKS! Gallery in the El Con
Mall.
Students will present their art creations, including paintings and cutout collages in the style of the French artist Henri Matisse, at the reception and give out a free handmade holiday gift to everyone who attends. Drinks and snacks will be provided.
As a TUSD Alternative Education High School, ArtWORKS! Academy invites a diverse group of at-risk students with an interest in art. Students complete their high school education while learning the fine art of hand-made tile and mixed media artwork. Their art is then sold in the ArtWORKS! Gallery at the front of the school, inside the El Con Mall near Robinsons May. Students receive half of all profits earned from the sale of their artwork; the remaining profits go back into supporting the program. This high school is a collaborative effort between TUSD, the Tucson Pima Arts Council, the City of Tucson, and the El Con Mall.
