Six seniors at University High School, 422
N. Arcadia Blvd., have been recognized by the National Hispanic
Recognition Program for their outstanding academic achievements.
Brandon Espinosa, Stephanie Mota,
Christina Quihuis, Michael Spece
and Katrina Zarate received scholar designations,
while Alana Alvarez received honorable mention
recognition.
Each year the program selects 3,300 students
nationally as scholars or honorable mention finalists. Students
are chosen based on their PSAT/National Merit Scholarship
Qualifying Test scores combined with their grade point averages.
Though the program gives no monetary award, it does distribute
the names of scholars and honorable mention finalists to college
and universities across the nation. The designation allows
students the opportunity to be contacted by institutions interested
in communicating with prospective students of Hispanic heritage.
The National Hispanic Recognition Program was
established in 1983 to honor outstanding Hispanic youth and
to increase their post-secondary educational opportunities.
